Billy Joe Chambers II, 36 of Rome , was arrested this week after reports said he stole a gun then later attempted to murder someone at a home on Selman Road.

Reports said that on October 25, 2020, Chambers stole a SKS style firearm from a home on Oreburg Road.  Police stated that Chambers borrowed the gun with the intent to return it.  However, Chambers pawned the weapon back on November 3, 2020.

The gun’s value was listed at $150.

Then on January 27, 2022, Chambers is accused of placing his hands around the neck of the victim with the intent to strangle her.  The victim received visible injuries to her face and neck.

Police said that later Chambers ignored the conditions of his bond when he made contact with the victim when he went to make contact with them.

Chambers is charged with aggravated assault, felony theft by taking, battery, aggravated stalking, contempt of court, failure to appear, and two counts of probation violation.
