Alonzo Moses Dennis, 72 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he beat a female child under the age of 10 years old after he was told she misbehaved at school.
Police said that Dennis hit the child on the top of the head, causing her to fall and break a chair.
He is then accused of picking her up and slamming her back on the floor before beginning to kick her in the buttocks.
Reports went on to say that Dennis then grabbed the child by the neck and started to choke her.
The incident occurred in front of another small child.
Dennis is charged with 1st degree cruelty to children and two counts third degree cruelty to children.
