A large crowed turned Monday as the Cave Spring City Council voted 4-1 to approve zoning ordinances as the city prepares for the closure of Cave Spring Elementary School in May.
The council zoned the school “Limited Commercial” or “C1”. The move means that the property can only be used for retail, restaurants, offices, banks and similar establishments moving forward.
The move likely ends the Housing Authority’s bid to change the property into residential homes.
The Cave Spring Council will be in charge of all rezoning going forward.
The ordinance creates the following zoning types:
- R-1: Agricultural-Residential for single family detached homes on large lots.
- R-2: Medium Density Multi-Family Residential for mixtures of single family homes, duplexes and apartments situated close together.
- C-2: General Commercial/Light Industrial for light manufacturing and higher traffic.
