Robin Franklin West, 38 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he threw a woman on a couch and then proceeded to use his hands to choke her out.
Police added that the incident occurred in front of three small children.
The incident happened at an apartment on Dodd Blvd.
West is charged with aggravated assault, battery and three counts cruelty to children.
