Mekel Tyrell Harper, 27 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he opened fire into a wooded area on Stonebridge Drive.
Police said that when they spotted Harper’s vehicle he proceeded to pull into the Oak Villa apartments where he threw the gun over a fence.
While being questioned he told police that he had had several shots of moonshine.
Harper is charged with discharging a firearm near a public highway, discharging a firearm under the influence of alcohol, reckless conduct, tampering with evidence, DUI and two counts obstruction.
