James Colin Sheffield, 25 of Cedartown, was arrested in Rome after police said he was intoxicated while crashing into a stop sign and fire hydrant and then leaving the scene.

Reports said that officers pulled Sheffield over at a location on Arrowhead Drive.  It was there he got out of his car and went inside a home.  Officers stated that Sheffield refused to come outside in an effort to avoid arrest.

Police stated that Sheffield’s girlfriend was able to reach him on the phone and convince him to come outside.

Sheffield is charged with failing to report an accident, DUI and obstruction of police.
