Rebecca Belle Gonzales, 21 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said she attacked a police officer while he was conducting a traffic stop on Cave Spring Street.
Reports stated that Gonzales was spotted driving in reverse at a high rate of speed down Jervis Street. After running a stop sign she slowed down near the intersection of Jervis and North Blanche Avenue.
Once the officer initiated the traffic stop Gonzales hit him with a closed fist to the face. She then proceeded to grab the officer’s microphone cable in an attempt to strangle him.
The microphone became damaged during the altercation.
Gonzales is charged with felony obstruction, interference with government property and reckless driving.
