Gordon Central head football Coach Cory Nix resigned on Wednesday.

According to Nix, “The last 24 hours have been a gut wrenching feeling for me as I submit my resignation as the Head Coach at Gordon Central High School this morning. Warriors, I am forever grateful for each one of you and hope that you will continue to work hard in the classroom and on the field and follow your dreams until they are reality. I have always been told when you do something or a job leave it better than you found it and I’m 100% sure that I did that. I am not quitting nor would I ever quit on these young men as they have become a part of my family. Not sure what the future holds for the Nix Family and me but please keep us in your prayers during this difficult and unknown transition.”

A statement from Gordon Central High School Principal Doug Clark was released, “It is with mixed emotions that I announce our Head Football Coach is leaving his position at GCHS. Coach Nix has worked tirelessly rebuilding Warrior football and has laid a solid foundation for the future success our football program. We wish Coach Nix nothing but the best as he starts the next chapter of his life and know he will continue to learn and grow as he moves forward.”

He added that TJ Hamilton has been named as the new head football coach and will take over the program immediately.

Hamilton is a 2006 GCHS alum. While he was in high school he was a three sport athlete (football, basketball, and track). After high school he continued his football career by playing football at the University of Tennessee at Martin. Coach Hamilton has been coaching for over 11 years. He has coached at White County Middle School, Johnson High School, North Hall High School, and Gordon Central High School.
