The Bartow County Sheriff’s Office has been involved in a deputy involved shooting.

According to Sheriff Clark Millsap, just after 12PM Friday several Bartow County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies began a vehicle pursuit off Glade Road in Bartow County. At the conclusion of the chase (on Country Lane in Red Top Mountain Estates), a deputy shot the driver of the vehicle. The suspect was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigations was called to the scene immediately and will conduct further investigations. No deputies or bystanders were injured during this incident.

Reports said that BCSO Deputy Matthew Aliberti initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by a male subject, identified as Charles Allen Brock, 47, of Bartow County.

Brock failed to stop his vehicle and a chase ensued lasting approximately eight minutes. Brock’s vehicle left the roadway during the chase at 4956 Country Lane, Acworth, Bartow County, GA.

At that point, Deputy Aliberti exited his vehicle and pursued Brock’s vehicle on foot. Brock then attempted to run over Deputy Aliberti with his vehicle, at which time Deputy Alberti fired multiple times at the vehicle, striking Brock. Brock was transported to Kennestone Hospital where he is in critical, but stable condition. Once released, charges are expected to be filed by the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office.

A female passenger in Brock’s vehicle was uninjured and arrested on unrelated charges by the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Aliberti was not injured in this incident.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the Cherokee Judicial Circuit District Attorney for review.
