Antonio Lee McConnell, 33 of Rome, was arrested after police said he fought with officers while attempting to place him under arrest after stopping him for speeding near East 14th Street.

Reports said that after McConnell stopped his car he attempted to run away on foot before being caught.  It was then a physical altercation between the suspect and officers occurred, in the process leading an officer to suffer a lower left leg injury.

A search of McConnell was then conduct and in the process leading police to allegedly find seven bundles of methamphetamine, a large quantity of suspected Xanax, and numerous bundles of marijuana that were all packaged for resale.

A marijuana grinder and drug scale was also found during the search.

While being transported to the Floyd County Jail McConnell told police that he had another bag of marijuana in his underwear.

The incident occurred near a Northwest Georgia Housing Authority Property.

McConnell is charged with possession – distribution or sale of marijuana, simple battery against a police officer, driving without a license, driving too fast, reckless conduct, possession of drug related objects, attempting to elude a police officer, two counts felony obstruction, possession of synthetic marijuana near a housing authority, possession of marijuana, possession of a schedule I controlled substances, possession of a schedule I controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of a schedule IV controlled substance, possession of a schedule IV controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of meth and possession of meth with intent to distribute.
