Jeffery Lynn Carter, 50 of Rome, was jailed this week after police said he grabbed a 55 year-old woman by the hair and threw her to the ground.  Carter then allegedly grabbed a large hunting knife, placed it to her throat and placed her in fear of her life.

Reports continued that the victim suffered numerous lacerations during the altercation, which occurred at Mr C’s convenience store on Martha Berry Highway.

Police added that Carter then left the scene, but was spotted a short time later on Big Texas Valley Road.

It was there Carter attempted to run from police when he jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot.   Three empty beer cans, as well as, a cooler full of beer was found in the vehicle.

Cater is charged with aggravated assault, battery, possession of a schedule II controlled substance, open container and driving without a license.
