Ronald Dean Murphy, 44 of Rome, was arrested Monday after police said he took $14,000 from an elderly person to perform work at her home.
Reports said that the woman’s money was allegedly taken on August 21st of this year.
A second victim in Floyd County had property on Brewer Road and contracted Murphy to do some grading and rebuild of a back deck on her house. This situation resulted in the victim taking close to $21,000. Police said that Murphy was supposed to do deck work, but failed to do so. They added that the incident occurred over the summer.
Murphy is charged with exploitation of the elderly and two counts of conversion of payment for property improvements.

Floyd County authorities said that Murphy is also the focus of doing similar crimes in Cherokee, Cobb and Bartow Counties.
Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department has six warrants against Murphy, four for conversion of payments for real property improvements and two for exploitation of an elder.
The Cherokee County warrants list victims in Canton, Acworth, Woodstock and Ball Ground. Those cases total up to more than $56,700 in work.
A hold is also placed against Murphy in Cobb County on a theft by conversion charge. Cobb authorities said that Murphy allegedly agreed to do HVAC work in March for a victim in Marietta. The victim gave Murphy $8,000 up front for supplies and equipment, but the work did not get done.
Bartow County also has an active investigation into Murphy.
