Christopher Kenyun Atwater, 32 of Rome, was jailed Tuesday after he was accused of shooting a 27 year-old man on East 12th Street back in April of this year.
Reports said that Atwater shot the victim with a 9 mm handgun.
It was also found that Atwater was a convicted felon, and as such, was not allowed to possess a gun.
Authorities added that Atwater had been found guilty of first degree cruelty to children back in 2012.
Atwater is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
