Brandy Holder, 41 of Rome, was sentenced to ten years, two to serve, in prison after stealing funds from the family of a man who was killed in Afghanistan. Reports stated that Holder set up a GoFundMe account for the family of Barry Sutton, who was killed by a suicide bomber while working as a private contractor.
Reports stated that Holder help set up the account for the family, but they stated that they were only given $400 of the money when she stopped returning calls.
Holder must also pay $4,800 to Sutton’s family.
After pleading guilty Judge Niedrach denied her request to be sentenced as a first offender.
Sutton was killed Aug. 22, 2015, while training Afghani law enforcement officers as part of a NATO effort.
