The City of Calhoun and its police department is mourning the death of former Police Chief Willie Mitchell.  Mitchell passed away Monday, March 21, after an extended illnes said Police Chief Garry Moss.

After beginning his career as a part time officer with the Calhoun Police Department in July 1968 he finally got on full time October 1974. Mitchell was finally promoted to Chief of Police in October 1988.

He retired after 32 years in January 2000.

Chief Mitchell is noted for starting the Community Oriented Policing Program long before other started across the county.
