The building that was once home to McCall Hospital will come down before the end of October. The South Rome Redevelopment Corporation approved the demolition during its meeting on Tuesday by accepting the low bid of $128,800 from Lilburn based Specialty Contracting. Officials said that the proposal will now go before City Manager Sammy Rich for him to sign off on. A pre-demolition meeting with the contractor then must be held and once the paperwork is finalized the contractor has 45 days to bring the building down.
Officials added that the pre-demolition meeting will consist of what will happen to the salvageable brick and tile from the building.
The demolition project is funded though a federal program called the Neighborhood Stabilization Program.
The old McCall Hospital is located at 310 South Broad Street.
