The Rome Tennis Center continues to strengthen its reputation as one of the state’s premier tennis destinations, with a busy tournament schedule, facility improvements, and the addition of future national events.

During a recent meeting of the City of Rome’s General Administration Committee, Colt Gaston and Lisa Smith presented updates on operations and upcoming developments at the Rome Tennis Center.

Gaston reported that the facility has hosted 61 tournaments this year, drawing players and visitors from across the region. In addition to its tournament schedule, the center has secured a significant future event after signing a two-year agreement with the United States Tennis Association (USTA) to host the National Adult Championships in 2027 and 2028.

Gaston also highlighted several ongoing improvements at the facility, including the addition of a new parking lot and the installation of windscreens designed to enhance the playing experience for athletes and visitors.

Lisa Smith reminded committee members of an upcoming operational transition for the facility. She noted that Rome Tennis Center staff will officially become City of Rome employees effective Jan. 2, 2027.

Committee Chair Craig McDaniel praised the Rome Tennis Center team for its continued success and the role the facility plays in the community’s growth and economic development.

McDaniel shared that during a recent trip to Savannah, he learned that developers evaluating locations for new industry projects often look for communities that offer strong quality-of-life amenities.

He pointed to assets such as Stonebridge Golf Course, the Rome Tennis Center, and the city’s trail system as examples of the types of amenities that help make Rome an attractive destination for both residents and businesses.

City leaders said the continued growth of the Rome Tennis Center not only enhances recreational opportunities for local residents but also strengthens Rome’s ability to attract tourism, sporting events, and future economic development opportunities.
