The Salvation Army of Rome is expanding its ability to serve the community with the addition of a new mobile canteen, a vehicle designed to bring food, drinks and support directly to people in need.
Local Salvation Army leaders recently unveiled the canteen during a ribbon-cutting ceremony, celebrating what they say will be a valuable resource during emergencies as well as everyday outreach efforts. The vehicle is equipped with a small kitchen setup, including cooking equipment, refrigeration and a generator, allowing volunteers to prepare and distribute meals and refreshments in locations throughout the community.
Officials said the canteen will be used to assist first responders, residents affected by disasters and individuals facing food insecurity. The vehicle will allow Salvation Army volunteers to respond more quickly to emergencies such as fires, severe weather and extended power outages, while also supporting ongoing community programs.
In addition to providing meals and beverages, Salvation Army leaders said the mobile unit will offer an opportunity to connect with people during difficult times by providing encouragement, resources and spiritual support when needed.
The addition of the canteen comes as the Salvation Army continues its long-standing mission in Rome, where it has served local residents for more than a century. Leaders say the vehicle will help extend the organization’s reach and make it easier to bring assistance directly to neighborhoods and people who need it most.
By taking services beyond its traditional facilities, the Salvation Army hopes the new mobile canteen will strengthen its disaster response capabilities and enhance its efforts to combat hunger throughout the Rome area.
