Rockmart football continues to build one of the most impressive runs in Georgia high school football history, and the Yellow Jackets are now chasing a record established by Calhoun.

Rockmart won its 70th consecutive region game last week, rolling past Ringgold 59-22 to move into sole possession of first place in Region 7-2A. The Yellow Jackets remain the only team in the region without a loss in league play as they pursue another region championship.

The victory extended a remarkable streak that dates back to 2016 and moved Rockmart closer to the top of the Georgia High School Association’s all-time list for consecutive region victories.

Rockmart now ranks fifth in state history with 70 straight wins in games that count toward region standings. The Yellow Jackets trail only Calhoun, McEachern, Camden County and Lincoln County.

Calhoun owns the state record with 119 consecutive region victories, a streak that stretched from 2001 through 2019. McEachern ranks second with 102 wins from 1986 through 1999, followed by Camden County with 91 from 1999 through 2012 and Lincoln County with 79 from 1983 through 1999.

Rockmart’s current streak of 70 wins puts the program within nine victories of passing Lincoln County for fourth place. The Yellow Jackets would need 50 additional region victories to match Calhoun’s state record of 119.

While the all-time winning streak remains a long-term target, Rockmart has another significant milestone within reach this season.

One More Region Championship Would Put Rockmart in Elite Company

Rockmart is seeking its 10th consecutive region championship after winning every region title from 2017 through 2025.

Only six schools in GHSA history have won at least 10 consecutive region championships, according to the all-time list. Calhoun leads that category with 18 straight titles from 2001 through 2018, followed by Lincoln County with 17 from 1982 through 1998 and Camden County with 13 from 2001 through 2013.

Carrollton, Palmetto and Warner Robins each captured 10 consecutive region championships during their respective historic runs.

Rockmart currently sits alongside Eagle’s Landing Christian and Rabun County with nine consecutive region titles. Winning the Region 7-2A championship this season would move the Yellow Jackets into the 10-title club and make them one of only seven programs in GHSA history to reach that milestone.

The Yellow Jackets have already matched the nine-title streaks recorded by Eagle’s Landing Christian from 2010 through 2018 and Rabun County from 2014 through 2022.

A Chance to Continue Making History

Rockmart’s accomplishments are particularly notable because the program is pursuing two historic milestones at the same time: extending its run of consecutive region victories and adding another championship to its growing collection.

The Yellow Jackets have won 70 straight region games since 2016 and have claimed nine consecutive region crowns. Their position atop Region 7-2A gives them an opportunity to extend both streaks as the season continues.

Calhoun’s record of 119 consecutive region victories remains the benchmark for sustained dominance in Georgia high school football. For now, Rockmart is steadily climbing the rankings while closing in on a 10th straight region championship.

If the Yellow Jackets finish the job this season, they will join a select group of programs that have reached double-digit consecutive region titles — another achievement for a Rockmart team that continues to establish its place among the state’s most dominant high school football programs.
