A 45-year-old Cedartown woman, Breanna Lytess Goggins, is facing multiple charges after a physical altercation at an apartment complex ended with a firearm being discharged, according to a police report.

According to the report, officers responding to the scene found the individuals involved separated. Witnesses directed officers to an apartment where they located Goggins and another woman arguing inside.

Officers asked about a reported firearm, and Goggins told them it was on a table next to her in the kitchen. An officer secured the weapon before speaking with those involved.

Goggins told police that she and another woman had experienced ongoing personal disagreements stemming from a dispute involving a man they had both been connected to. She said the two had been involved in three verbal confrontations, including the incident under investigation, but that this was the first to turn physical.

Goggins said she had been preparing to walk her sister and niece to their vehicle when the disagreement escalated. According to her account, she went back inside her apartment and retrieved a firearm before returning outside.

She told officers that a physical fight broke out and that two women attacked her. Goggins said she pulled the firearm from her pocket while another woman was grabbing her arm, and the weapon discharged during the struggle.

The other woman provided a different account, telling police that Goggins approached her with a silver handgun, pointed it toward her face and began yelling. She said she swung at Goggins because she feared for her safety and that the firearm went off during the altercation.

Goggins was charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats or acts, and pointing a gun at another person following the incident.
