Families who regularly use the Peek Park playground will have to find another place to play for the time being after vandalism caused extensive damage to a section of the playground’s rubber safety surfacing.
The playground closed Monday, Aug. 17, and will remain closed until further notice while crews work to restore the damaged area.
Officials said the damage was the result of vandalism and noted that video surveillance is in place at the playground and has captured activity related to the damage.
The temporary closure is being made to protect children while repairs are completed and the playground is returned to a safe condition.Officials also reminded parents and guardians that adult supervision is required at all times while children are using the playground.
Community members are being asked to help protect Peek Park by taking care of the playground, its equipment and surrounding facilities.
“We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make these repairs,” officials said.Officials did not provide an estimated date for when the playground will reopen.
