Northwest Georgia Charter Academy students, parents and staff marked the completion of the school’s first two weeks with a special student showcase recently, giving families an opportunity to see what their children had learned during the opening days of the school year.

The school gym was filled with parents and grandparents as students took the stage to perform skits, songs and chants developed through team-building activities earlier in the week at Camp Sidney Dew.

Students from every grade traveled to the camp to participate in team-building exercises led with the help of Scout leaders. Along with working together as teams, students were introduced to lessons focused on leadership, cooperation, communication and other important life skills.

Judy Taylor, founder and board chair of NWGA Charter Academy, said the activities were part of a larger effort to establish strong relationships and a positive school culture from the beginning of the year.

“We spent the first two weeks building relationships between students, teachers and staff,  laying the foundation for a culture that will support the three dimensions of our EL model: Mastery of Knowledge and Skills; High Quality Work; and Character Development,” Taylor said.

The presentations gave students an opportunity to demonstrate their teamwork and creativity while allowing families to see firsthand some of the experiences their children had during the first weeks of school.

NWGA Charter Academy currently has a limited number of openings remaining in kindergarten and fifth grade.
