Local residents will have a rare chance to see more than a century of University of Georgia sports history up close when “UGA Athletics in Your Town” arrives at the Rome‑Floyd Public Library on Thursday, July 30, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The traveling exhibit, curated by the University of Georgia Athletic Association archives, features some of the oldest and most iconic artifacts in Bulldog history. Items on display will include:

  • Georgia football helmets from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1980s
  • Tickets and a game‑day program from the first game ever played in Sanford Stadium
  • A handwritten playbook from legendary coach Wally Butts in the 1950s
  • The “Silver Chalice” of 1894, the oldest known UGA athletics artifact

The collection will be presented by Jason Hasty, Athletics History Specialist for the UGA Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, as part of a statewide summer tour.

“The UGA Athletic Association archive contains 130 years of the physical history of UGA Athletics,” Hasty said. “This traveling exhibit is a great way to take some of the most interesting artifacts we have in this archive to communities all across Georgia for a fun, family‑friendly event.”

The exhibit is free and open to the public.
