A 26-year-old Rome woman, Kaitlyn Marie Hoke, is facing two counts each of child cruelty and reckless conduct charges after police said her two young children were found unattended in a roadway.

According to a Floyd County statement of criminal charges, the incident occurred July 13 at a residence on Goodman Road. Authorities allege Hoke allowed her two children, ages 3 and 5, to leave the residence unattended.

The children were later found unattended in the roadway, according to the charging document. Police said one of the children was wearing only a heavily soiled diaper.

Investigators allege Hoke’s actions endangered the safety of the children and created a risk of serious injury or death. The charging document states the children were too young to reasonably keep themselves safe or care for themselves.
