A Summerville man was taken into custody after police responded to reports of several fights during an event near the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Highland Avenue. According to an incident report from the Summerville Police Department, officers were dispatched to the area after receiving calls about a man allegedly involved in multiple physical altercations with people attending the event.
When officers arrived, they reported seeing the suspect, identified as Tevin Smith, push both a man and a woman. Police immediately detained Smith and instructed him to place his hands on the hood of a patrol vehicle while they continued their investigation.
During the investigation, officers spoke with Jessica Jeburk, who identified herself as Smith’s mother. According to the report, she advised officers to arrest her son.
Police said Smith resisted officers’ attempts to place him in handcuffs but was eventually restrained and taken into custody. Officers also noted they detected a strong odor of alcohol on Smith.
Another witness, Drago Jeburk, told officers that Smith had consumed a large amount of alcohol and had been instigating confrontations with several people throughout the event. The report states Jessica Jeburk also confirmed that account.
Investigators reported that no other victims came forward during the investigation.
