The Governor’s Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) has released its annual “Beating the Odds” (BTO) analysis, highlighting academic performance across Chattooga County Schools and Trion City Schools.

The Beating the Odds report compares a school’s actual College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) score against a predicted score generated through a statistical model. The model considers factors outside a school’s direct control, including demographic and socioeconomic characteristics, to estimate expected performance.

Schools are classified as either beating expectations, performing within the expected range, or falling below expectations. Schools designated as “Beating the Odds” achieved CCRPI scores significantly above statistical projections, while those in the “Within Expected Range” category performed in line with expectations. Schools classified as “Below Expected Range” scored below the model’s projected confidence interval.

Chattooga County Schools

One Chattooga County school earned the “Beating the Odds” designation:

  • Summerville Middle School

Two schools were classified as performing within the expected range:

  • Chattooga High School
  • Lyerly Elementary School

Two schools were identified as “Below Expected Range”:

  • Leroy Massey Elementary School
  • Menlo Elementary School

Trion City Schools

One Trion City school earned the “Beating the Odds” designation:

  • Trion Elementary School

One school was classified as performing within the expected range:

  • Trion Middle School

One school was identified as “Below Expected Range”:

  • Trion High School

GOSA conducts the BTO analysis annually following the release of CCRPI scores by the Georgia Department of Education. The process uses a statistical regression model to estimate expected performance and compare actual results against those projections.

The designation is designed to identify schools that are outperforming or underperforming expectations after accounting for external factors that can influence academic achievement. Complete BTO results and methodology details are available through GOSA’s public reporting system.
