The Governor’s Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) has released its annual “Beating the Odds” (BTO) analysis, recognizing several schools in Gordon County Schools and Calhoun City Schools for exceeding projected academic performance levels.
The Beating the Odds report compares a school’s actual College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) score against a predicted score generated through a statistical model. The model considers factors outside a school’s direct control, including demographic and socioeconomic characteristics, to estimate expected performance.
Schools are classified as either beating expectations, performing within the expected range, or falling below expectations. Schools designated as “Beating the Odds” achieved CCRPI scores significantly above statistical projections, while those in the “Within Expected Range” category performed in line with expectations. Schools classified as “Below Expected Range” scored below the model’s projected confidence interval.
Gordon County Schools
Five Gordon County schools earned the “Beating the Odds” designation:
- Ashworth Middle School
- Belwood Elementary School
- Gordon Central High School
- Sonoraville Elementary School
- Tolbert Elementary School
Four schools were classified as performing within the expected range:
- Fairmount Elementary School
- Red Bud Elementary School
- Sonoraville High School
- Swain Elementary School
One school was identified as “Below Expected Range”:
- Red Bud Middle School
Calhoun City Schools
One Calhoun City school earned the “Beating the Odds” designation:
- Calhoun High School
Two schools were classified as performing within the expected range:
- Calhoun Middle School
- Calhoun Primary School
One school was identified as “Below Expected Range”:
- Calhoun Elementary School
GOSA conducts the BTO analysis annually following the release of CCRPI scores by the Georgia Department of Education. The process uses a statistical regression model to estimate expected performance and compare actual results against those projections.
The designation is designed to identify schools that are outperforming or underperforming expectations after accounting for external factors that can influence academic achievement. Complete BTO results and methodology details are available through GOSA’s public reporting system.
