The City of Rome General Administration Committee advanced several appointments and reappointments to local boards and committees during its meeting this week at City Hall.

Meeting in the Sam King Room, committee members unanimously approved recommendations affecting the Library Board, Landmarking Committee, Historic Preservation Committee, and Floyd Health Board. The recommendations will now move to the Rome City Commission for consideration, with final action expected at its July 13 meeting.

One of the committee’s first actions was recommending the reappointment of Monica Burge to the Library Board. Burge’s three-year term expired in June 2025, and city officials said she expressed a desire to continue serving.

The committee also voted to recommend that Ann Pullen and Evie McNiece be reappointed to the Landmarking Committee. Both members’ four-year terms expired in July 2024, and each indicated an interest in serving another term.

Several changes were recommended for the Historic Preservation Committee, where three positions are currently open. Senior Planner Samantha Bishop told committee members that Tayesha Lytle does not wish to seek another term, while Paula Blalock is not eligible for reappointment. The committee voted to recommend reappointing Logan Boss and appointing Ben Levy and Sara McElrath to fill the available positions.

Committee members also addressed a vacancy on the Floyd Health Board. Susie Twyman’s four-year term expired at the end of 2025, and she is no longer eligible to serve. Committee Chairman Craig McDaniel noted that Twyman had recommended Renaultha Houston as her successor. The committee unanimously supported forwarding Houston’s name to the City Commission for appointment.

The committee also discussed a vacancy on the Rome Redevelopment Agency after Joseph Wright declined to serve. City Clerk Joe Smith reviewed the agency’s role and membership requirements, but no action was taken to fill the position.

The General Administration Committee’s recommendations will be presented to the Rome City Commission for nomination, with a final vote on the appointments expected during the commission’s July 13 meeting.
