A fatal house fire claimed the life of one person earlier this week in Floyd County, according to the Rome-Floyd Fire Department. Emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 8:44 a.m. on June 14 to a residence in the 400 block of West Union Road NE following reports of a structure fire with a person believed to be trapped inside.

Firefighters arrived to find the single-story home engulfed in heavy smoke and flames. Crews immediately launched an interior fire attack and were able to bring the blaze under control before fully extinguishing it.

Despite their efforts, one occupant was found deceased inside the residence.

The body has been turned over to the Floyd County Coroner’s Office, where officials are working to confirm the victim’s identity before releasing the name.

The response included 20 personnel from the Rome-Floyd Fire Department, including two engine companies, two tankers, a squad unit, two chief officers, and three fire investigators.

No firefighters were injured while battling the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
