A Cedartown man is facing a slate of felony charges after authorities say he stole a weed-eater from a Johnson Lake Road residence and became involved in a heated confrontation with the homeowner. Austen James Galvan, 29, of Cedartown, has been charged with aggravated assault, armed robbery, false imprisonment, felony theft by taking, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to law enforcement.
The charges stem from an incident reported on July 20, 2025, when Sgt. Winkles was dispatched around 4 p.m. to 3508 Johnson Lake Road in reference to a theft.
Upon arrival, Sgt. Winkles spoke to a woman who reported that her Echo weedeater, valued at approximately $200, had been stolen the previous day by Galvan. Hyde told officers that on July 19, Galvan and her daughter came to the property to pick up some of their belongings.
While there, Galvan became argumentative, telling the victim to hit him while repeatedly slapping his own face. After the confrontation, the victim went back inside the residence. Moments later, she noticed Galvan walking off the property carrying the weedeater.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances that led to the more serious charges, including aggravated assault and armed robbery. The case remains under investigation.
