A monthslong drug investigation by the Cartersville Police Department has resulted in the arrest of a Cartersville man accused of trafficking crack cocaine and operating near a public housing complex.

Police said investigators launched the investigation after receiving information about the sale of crack cocaine from an apartment at 51 Ridge Row. During the investigation, detectives identified Jarrod Kenta Sheppard, 47, as the suspected distributor.

Authorities arrested Sheppard and said he was found in possession of approximately one ounce of crack cocaine. Investigators later executed a search warrant at his apartment, where they allegedly discovered an additional quarter-kilogram of crack cocaine.

According to police, the amount of narcotics seized indicates the drugs were intended to supply street-level dealers rather than for personal use.Investigators also noted that the alleged drug activity occurred within 1,000 feet of a government housing authority, leading to enhanced charges. A firearm was also recovered during the investigation.

Cartersville Police Chief Kevin Cloninger thanked the community for providing information that helped launch the investigation and praised the officers involved for their efforts in removing what he described as a dangerous drug operation from the community.

Sheppard has been charged with:Trafficking in Cocaine, Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine, Within 1,000 Feet of a Housing Authority, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Willful Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers.
