Brittany Anne Birdyshaw, 39 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said she attacked a police officer during a traffic stop on Calhoun Road.
Police said that they initiated the traffic stop due to a BOLO for an erratic driver. Once pulling Birdyshaw over, officers said that she refused to identify herself while appearing to be under the influence of some sort of substance.
Birdyshaw then attempted to flee the scene on foot. When officers caught up to her, she allegedly placed her arms around the officer’s neck and threw him on the ground. While being taken into custody, Birdyshaw reportedly made numerous threats on the scene and later at Atrium Health Floyd. One of the threats included “her wish to shoot the officer who had arrested her”.
Reports went on to say that a search of her vehicle resulted in officers finding marijuana, opened container of alcohol, drug paraphernalia, and prescription medication.
Birdyshaw is charged with felony obstruction, DUI, terroristic threats, possession of marijuana, possession of drug related objects, headlight violation, brake light violation, open container and reckless driving.
