A Rome family is receiving emergency support from the community after a devastating house fire destroyed nearly all of their belongings, leaving them without basic necessities or stable shelter.
Local pediatrician and community leader Dr. Raj Miniyar is leading efforts to assist Mrs. Husley and her family in the aftermath of the fire, calling the situation “heartbreaking.”
“She literally lost everything,” Dr. Miniyar said. “Clothes, shoes, toiletries, food, and even the most basic daily necessities were destroyed in the fire. When she came to see me, she did not even have shoes.”
According to Dr. Miniyar, the family currently does not have a proper place to sleep or shower. To help provide immediate relief, he is arranging for the family to stay in a motel for one week while they begin recovering from the tragedy.
Community donations are now being collected to help replace essential items lost in the fire, including clothing, toiletries, blankets, pillows, household goods, and non-perishable food.
The family’s immediate clothing needs include:
- Pants: Size 22
- Shirts: 2X
- Underwear: Size 10
- Shoes: Women’s size 7½ to 8
Dr. Miniyar said donations of any size can make a meaningful difference as the family works to rebuild.
“It could be a mattress, used bed, blankets, kitchen items, toiletries, clothes, or any basic household necessities,” he said. “Anything people can give will help this family start over.”
To encourage additional support, Dr. Miniyar also announced a dollar-for-dollar matching pledge for monetary donations up to $500.
“For every dollar donated, I will personally match it up to $500,” he said.
Residents interested in helping are encouraged to come forward during what Dr. Miniyar described as one of the family’s most difficult moments.
“Every small act of kindness matters,” he said.
