The City of Rockmart has announced the installation of the first publicly accessible SAVE Station along the Silver Comet Trail, marking a major step forward in trail safety and emergency preparedness.
The SAVE Station, which includes an automated external defibrillator (AED), is now located at the Rockmart trailhead of the Silver Comet Trail. City officials said Rockmart is currently the first and only location along the popular trail system to offer the life-saving resource.
The project was made possible through a partnership between the City of Rockmart, AdventHealth, and EMS Superstore. The Silver Comet Trail is one of Georgia’s most popular outdoor recreation destinations, stretching more than 60 miles from the Atlanta area through northwest Georgia to the Alabama state line, where it connects with Alabama’s Chief Ladiga Trail. In Polk County, the trail runs through Rockmart and Cedartown, serving as a major attraction for cyclists, runners, walkers, and tourists visiting the area.
Rockmart’s trailhead is considered one of the busiest and most scenic sections of the trail, featuring easy access to downtown businesses, parks, and rest areas. With heavy year-round usage and long stretches between emergency services access points, city leaders said having a publicly accessible AED station available could make a critical difference during a medical emergency.
Officials said the SAVE Station was installed to provide immediate access to life-saving equipment during cardiac emergencies while first responders are en route. Quick access to an AED can significantly improve survival rates during sudden cardiac arrest incidents.
City leaders said the addition reflects Rockmart’s ongoing commitment to public safety, outdoor recreation, and enhancing the experience for both residents and visitors using the Silver Comet Trail.
