Melissa Brook Bennett, 35 of Lindale, was arrested this week after reports said she allowed her 10 year-old child to be truant from school.
Police said that Bennett allowed her child to miss 19 days of school, 11 unexcused, this school year. Reports added that Bennett signed a truancy contract on April 22, 2025, which was valid throughout this school year. The child also reportedly had 69 tardies since the contract was signed.
Bennett is charged with mandatory education of children and probation violation.
