An early morning fire on Old Lindale Road claimed one life and left another person hospitalized Sunday, according to officials with the Rome-Floyd County Fire Department.
Crews were called to a home at 63 Old Lindale Road around 4:38 a.m., said Division Chief Jamie Stone.
When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy flames coming from a single-family residence. Firefighters entered the home to battle the blaze while also conducting a search for anyone inside.
Officials confirmed that two individuals were in the residence at the time. One was taken to a local hospital after suffering from smoke inhalation. The second individual died as a result of injuries sustained in the fire.
Investigators later determined the fire was accidental and caused by an electrical issue.
