Mark Anthony Washington, 62 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he beat a 56 year-old woman in the face with a closed fist and then prevented her from calling 911 for help.
Reports said that Washington took the victim’s phone during the altercation and threw it away.
Officers were later dispatched to the home on Lyons Drive. When they arrived, Washington reportedly gave them fake name before fleeing on foot in an intoxicated state. He was captured after a short chase.
Washington is charged with battery, public drunk, obstruction, giving false information to police, and obstruction of a person making an emergency telephone call.
