Daryl Bernard Wofford, 66, of Cedartown, was arrested this week after officers were dispatched to a residence on Herbert Street following a 911 call reporting a dispute involving his brother.
When officers arrived, they spoke with the complainant, who said the argument had ended and that Wofford had already left the property. He also requested that Wofford not return. Police began searching the area and were directed to a nearby location on North Martiele Street, where a witness reported seeing Wofford walking toward a convenience store on East Avenue.
Officers located Wofford inside the business and asked him to step outside to discuss the situation. During the interaction, an officer reported smelling marijuana and asked Wofford if he had any in his possession. Wofford admitted that he did.
As officers attempted to conduct a search, Wofford reportedly became nervous and reached into his pants, removing a small bag of what appeared to be marijuana. During a subsequent search, officers said they found a plastic bag containing a substance believed to be crack cocaine. Wofford was then placed under arrest.
After being transported to the Polk County Jail, jail staff discovered additional suspected narcotics during a booking search, including more cocaine hidden in his hand and a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine concealed in his sock.
Before being booked, Wofford was taken to Polk Medical Center for medical clearance and later returned to the jail.
All evidence was collected and submitted to the Cedartown Police Department for testing. Authorities also confirmed that Wofford has been formally trespassed from the Herbert Street residence.
Wofford is charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine, crossing the guard line with drugs, and two counts of possession of a counterfeit substance near a housing project.
