Floyd County educator and community advocate Carmen Jones has officially announced her candidacy for the Floyd County Board of Education, presenting a platform focused on transparency, student achievement, and stronger communication between schools and families.
Jones, who has spent years working closely with students, parents, and local organizations, said her decision to run comes from “a deep belief that every child in Floyd County deserves the strongest possible start.” She emphasized that her campaign is rooted in listening to the community and elevating the voices of families who feel disconnected from district decision‑making.
“In every conversation I’ve had, parents tell me the same thing — they want to feel heard,” Jones said. “They want to know what’s happening in their schools, why decisions are being made, and how those decisions affect their children. I’m running because I believe we can do better, and I believe transparency builds trust.”
Jones highlighted several priorities she hopes to bring to the board, including improved communication practices, support for teachers, and a renewed focus on academic readiness. She noted that strong schools depend on strong relationships, both inside and outside the classroom.
“Our teachers are working hard every day, and they deserve board members who understand the challenges they face,” she said. “When we support our educators, we support our students. And when we support our students, we strengthen our entire community.”
Jones also spoke about the importance of preparing students for a rapidly changing world, pointing to the need for expanded career pathways, modernized resources, and programs that help students build confidence and real‑world skills.
“Whether a student plans to attend college, enter a trade, or start a business, they should leave our schools feeling ready,” she said. “That’s what families expect, and that’s what our district should deliver.”
Throughout her announcement, Jones emphasized collaboration, saying she hopes to bring a steady, solutions‑focused voice to the board.
“This isn’t about politics,” she said. “It’s about children, families, and the future of Floyd County. I want to work with parents, teachers, and administrators to make sure every decision we make is in the best interest of students.”
Jones will continue meeting with families and community groups in the coming weeks as she outlines her full platform and priorities.
