A student is in custody after allegedly making online threats targeting Gaylesville School, triggering a swift response from local and federal authorities. Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver said the situation began unfolding earlier in the day when federal officials alerted local dispatchers to a concerning social media post referencing a potential threat. The notification prompted an immediate response from deputies and school resource officers, who moved quickly to secure the campus as a precaution.
School officials placed Gaylesville School under a temporary secure status while law enforcement worked to assess the situation and ensure the safety of students and staff.
Authorities reported that the student was identified and taken into custody within about 30 minutes of the initial alert. The arrest was carried out without incident, and no weapons were discovered during the investigation.
The student now faces a charge of first-degree terrorist threats. Officials emphasized that there is no ongoing danger to the school or surrounding community.
In a statement, Sheriff Shaver said law enforcement acted decisively upon receiving the tip and credited coordination between agencies for the quick resolution. He also noted the importance of transparency, acknowledging that incidents like this can cause concern among parents and school personnel.
Officials thanked federal partners for sharing the information promptly, as well as school administrators and staff for their cooperation during the response.
Because the suspect is a juvenile, authorities have not released any identifying details. The investigation remains active.
