President Don Dowless will remain in his position as President of Shorter University for three more years, stepping back from an earlier plan to retire at the end of the spring semester.
The university’s board of trustees approved the contract extension after Dowless had previously announced he would leave his role on May 31.
Board Chair Randy Bowen expressed appreciation for the decision, noting the trustees are thankful for Dowless’ continued leadership and commitment to the university’s Christian mission. Dowless said he considers it a privilege to keep serving the school and its students.
The decision represents a change from the university’s earlier timeline for presidential transition announced in recent months. Officials did not provide further details about what prompted the extension.
