The Gordon County Board of Education highlighted a series of exceptional student accomplishments during its April 13 meeting, recognizing top academic achievers and award-winning talent from across the district.

Among those honored were the Class of 2026 valedictorians and salutatorians. Gordon Central High School named Keira Bryson as its valedictorian. Bryson plans to attend the University of Georgia, where she will major in elementary education. At Sonoraville High School, Rushi Patel earned valedictorian honors and will attend Georgia Tech to study finance.

Sonoraville High School’s salutatorian, Morgan Guyton, will also attend the University of Georgia, majoring in English. Gordon Central High School’s salutatorian, Seth Kolterman, has been appointed to the United States Air Force Academy.

The board also recognized Gordon Central freshman Zillionaire Li Ou for his first-place finish in the 9th–10th grade animation category at the state Technology Competition. School leaders credited his success in part to the support of teacher and sponsor Heather Stodghill, as well as Instructional Technology Coordinator Whitney Prather, who helps facilitate student participation in the competition districtwide.

In addition, the district honored its 2026 STAR Students and Teachers. Sonoraville High School’s STAR Student, Morgan Guyton, selected science teacher Samantha Watson as her STAR Teacher, citing Watson’s passion for science, ability to simplify complex concepts, and dedication to building strong relationships with students.

At Gordon Central High School, STAR Student Seth Kolterman chose English teacher Shannon Rainwater as his STAR Teacher. Kolterman credited Rainwater with helping him develop critical thinking skills and effective writing techniques, particularly in literary analysis and competition settings.

District leaders praised the students and educators for their achievements, emphasizing the role of strong mentorship and academic commitment in their success.
