Last week, Chattooga County (AL) Deputy Catly Itson, who is currently attending the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Academy, showed quick thinking and courage while leaving for the week to return home.

While stopped in traffic on I-65 South, just north of downtown Birmingham, a vehicle failed to stop, causing a multi-vehicle collision. Moments later, one of the vehicles caught fire. Without hesitation, Deputy Itson ran to help.

She helped remove the driver from the burning vehicle and also assisted another individual from a separate vehicle involved in the crash. She remained on scene, checking on others and ensuring their safety until Birmingham Police arrived, just before the vehicle became fully engulfed in flames.

Thanks to her immediate actions, both individuals were able to get out safely.

We are proud of Deputy Itson and the way she stepped up in a critical moment. Her actions reflect the character and commitment we value in this office.
