AdventHealth Redmond is set to receive $934,000 in federal funding to launch a new transportation initiative aimed at improving access to health services across Northwest Georgia.
The program, known as the Northwest Georgia Rural Initiative for Transportation (NW-GRIT), will focus on providing non-emergency transportation for underserved residents. The goal is to help patients more easily reach community resources, including critical mental health services, which are often difficult to access in rural areas.
The funding was secured with support from Jon Ossoff, who worked across party lines to expand health care services for families in metro Atlanta and throughout North Georgia.
In a statement, Isaac Sendros expressed gratitude for the federal investment and its expected impact on the region.
“Thank you, Senator Ossoff, and your incredible team, for your steadfast support of AdventHealth and the citizens of Northwest Georgia,” Sendros said. “We are deeply appreciative of the $934,000 in federal funding for the Northwest Georgia Rural Initiative for Transportation (NW-GRIT). This investment will have a profound impact on our community, improving access to critical health and mental health resources for underserved residents.”
He added that the initiative reflects a broader commitment to strengthening rural health systems and expanding opportunities for those in need.
“We are grateful for your partnership and look forward to realizing the transformative benefits this funding will provide,” Sendros said.
Local leaders say the NW-GRIT program could play a key role in reducing barriers to care, particularly for patients who lack reliable transportation — a common challenge in rural communities.
