A Rome woman, 55-year-old Montana Deunn Fisher, has been arrested after being accused of obtaining $1,019.54 from a victim through deceptive means involving an insurance check. The check, in the amount of $2,651.54, was reportedly legitimate; however, investigators state that a stop payment had been placed on it without the victim’s knowledge.
Police allege that after the check was presented, the victim paid Fisher the difference of $1,019.54. By the time the stop payment was discovered, the funds had already been disbursed. Investigators further allege that Fisher immediately cashed the $1,019.54 at a local business.
Fisher has been formally charged with theft by deception.
