Michael Shane Cowan, a lifelong resident and business leader of Floyd County, Georgia, has officially announced his candidacy for the Floyd County Commission.

Cowan brings decades of experience in business management, fiscal responsibility, and community service to his campaign, pledging to work tirelessly to make Floyd County “better than we received it.”

“I was born and raised right here in Floyd County. This community shaped who I am, and it’s where I chose to build my life, raise my family, and grow my business,” Cowan said. “I am prepared for the work it will take to invest wisely in our county’s future, support local businesses, protect taxpayers, and strengthen opportunities for the next generation.”

Cowan’s career began with hands-on experience in grocery and cattle farming during his youth, instilling a strong work ethic that has guided him throughout his life. He later became President and CEO of GMC Valuemart Food and Pharmacy, gaining firsthand experience navigating government regulations, compliance requirements, and the challenges businesses face daily. He currently serves as President of KSC Cowan Properties LLC.

Cowan’s commitment to Floyd County is personal as well as professional. He married his high school sweetheart, Cindy, in 1994, and they are proud parents and grandparents, emphasizing the importance of building a strong future for their family and the community.

“Running a business taught me how government decisions affect families, businesses, and taxpayers,” Cowan said. “I am ready to bring that real-world perspective to the Floyd County Commission, ensuring responsible leadership and smart investment in our county’s growth.”
