Thiago Cruz, a third-grade student at Alto Park Elementary School, is gaining national attention as a finalist in the America’s Favorite Student contest,an achievement that reflects not only his academic excellence, but also his extraordinary resilience.

As a finalist in the national competition, Thiago now has the opportunity to win a grand prize that includes a feature in Reader’s Digest, a tour of The Planetary Society alongside science educator Bill Nye, and a $20,000 award.
