A local advocate for children, Scott Alan Sherwin, 64 of Rome, has been jailed this week on numerous counts of sexual extortion, forgery and false statements and writings.

According to officials, warrants were taken in Bartow County and Sherwin was taken into custody this week at his home.  Sherwin who serves as a counselor and behavior analyst office located on Douglas Street.

Court documents state that Sherwin demanded nude photographs from the victim. In exchange, he promised to log the victim’s required community service hours at the center. The warrants allege that, out of 80 sentenced hours, Sherwin logged 78 fictitious ones and submitted the false records to Supervision Services Inc.

According to Sherwin’s Linkedin page he “Advocates for Children provides services to children and families who have been the victims of abuse and neglect. We also offer multiple layers of personal care through an array of programs to reduce the incidence of child abuse. Advocates serves 11 Northwest Georgia counties offering safety, comfort, and hope to children, youth, and families every year.”

Advocates for Children released the following statement: “Advocates for Children is aware of an active law enforcement investigation involving a former employee. On February 26, 2026, Advocates for Children was notified by local authorities that a senior leadership team member was under investigation for activities related to work performed outside his role with our organization, including external contracts with other agencies and matters that occurred prior to his employment with Advocates. Additional concerns relate to violations of organizational policy and the code of ethics during his employment with our organization. Upon receiving this information, the employee was immediately terminated, and all access to organizational facilities, systems, and programs was removed. We are cooperating fully with law enforcement and remain committed to transparency. At this time, we have no information indicating that any child in the care of custody of Advocates for Children was harmed.”

Sherwin is charged with 15 counts of sexual extortion, 15 counts of forgery, and false statements and writings.
