Gordon County officials reported modest increases in tax collections for January 2026, according to the latest financial report.

For the period, Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) collections totaled $1,210,175.19, marking a 0.47% increase ($5,655.48) over the same period last year. Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) collections reached $744,051.68, up 0.5% ($3,677.25) compared with January 2025.

Meanwhile, Floyd County Local Option Sales Tax (FLOST) revenue remitted to Gordon County totaled $1,195,902.88. Under Georgia law and a county agreement, the proceeds are distributed to participating local governments as follows: Gordon County receives $753,418 (63%), Calhoun $418,566.01 (35%), Fairmount $16,742.64 (1.4%), and Plainville $7,175.42 (0.6%). This funding is earmarked to reduce next year’s millage rate as approved by voters. The city of Resaca does not participate in FLOST, as it does not levy an ad valorem tax.

Budget Planning Underway

County officials have been reviewing budget requests from nearly all departments, agencies, and elected officials. To date, the finance team has examined submissions from 35 entities, which are now under review by the county administrator.

Significant Projects in Progress

  • Economic Development: The Gordon and Floyd Joint Development Authority is negotiating the potential sale of remaining property in the JDA Park in Floyd County. Discussions are ongoing.
  • SPLOST-Funded Projects:
    • Morgue Construction is currently underway.
    • Community Events Center: The meeting space is expected to be finished within a month, with overall project completion scheduled for June 2026.

County leaders say these projects and revenue streams continue to support local services while providing a pathway for future economic development.
