Students and staff at Armuchee Elementary School gathered recently as Georgia State Superintendent Richard Woods visited to honor seven Floyd County schools for outstanding academic achievements.
Three schools were named Math Leaders: Armuchee Elementary, Model Middle, and Pepperell High. Literacy Leader honors went to Alto Park Elementary, Armuchee High, and Coosa High. Armuchee Elementary and Model High also received the state’s new John Hancock Award for promoting cursive writing.
The awards recognize schools for high achievement and growth on state assessments, including Milestones and high school end-of-course exams in Algebra and American Literature.
School leaders said the honors reflect the dedication of teachers and staff who focus on student learning every day. High school recognitions are especially rare, with Armuchee and Coosa High joining a select group of Literacy Leader schools statewide. Pepperell High earned Math Leader honors for the second consecutive year, while the John Hancock Award highlights the continued importance of cursive and penmanship skills.
Superintendent Woods emphasized that the awards honor the work of entire school communities, acknowledging the contributions of teachers and staff at all grade levels.
